SERVICE & MISSION
FAM Houston is a nonprofit birthed from Westbury UMC in 2012 that now works for justice by building empowered community among refugees, immigrants, and local Houstonians through practices of hospitality, mutuality, storytelling & inclusivity. Join the work of FAM by volunteering with the Women’s Empowerment Group (Thursdays 10a.m.) a brave space for Congolese refugee women to find mutual community with American women, build their support network, and grow in confidence. Braes Interfaith Ministries: Westbury UMC is a member congregation that supports the work of BIM, providing physical, spiritual, and emotional assistance to persons in need in Southwest Houston.
Westbury High School: Our church loves our local high school and constantly seeks ways to support the students and staff. You can volunteer as a weekly lunch mentor, sing in our church choir with a Westbury High Choral Scholar, send a worthy senior to Prom, donate school uniform clothes, or provide snacks to hungry students. Contact Pastor Eleanor (eleanor@westburyumc.org) for more info.
Mission Trips: Every summer we send teenagers and adults on service trips around Texas with UM ARMY (United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth). For the past three years, we have sent teams to the Valley to witness and serve the communities at the border. Recent international trips have taken youth and adults to Haiti and Bolivia.
